Position:     Child & Family Therapist – Access/Intake

Location:    Belleville

Status:         Temporary Full-Time 6 Month Contract - 35 hours/week (flexible hours required), Monday to Friday

Salary:         Undergraduate:     $33.18 to $39.65 / hr

                        Graduate:                 $35.04 to $41.88 / hr

premium payment of fourteen percent (14%) for all hours worked paid in lieu of benefits


Children’s Mental Health Services (CMHS) is a publicly funded charitable organization in the City of Belleville, serving Hastings and Prince Edward counties, which provides a spectrum of innovative and evidence-based, mental health services.  We provide Live-In and community-based services including in–home programs to children, youth, and families within the community.  

CMHS is seeking a qualified individual to join our Intake team at our Belleville office.  This is a temporary full-time contract and is part of a bargaining unit.  Availability for evening appointments 1 – 2 days a week will be required.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Community Services Manager responsible of the respective program, the Child and Family Therapist provides client centred child, youth and family intervention and intake services to children, youth and their families and/or caregivers with mental health needs. Mental Health services delivered by the Child & Family Therapist to their communities may include assessment, single session counselling/therapy, case management, crisis response and psycho-educational activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting assessments and single session treatment interventions with children, youth, and their families

  • Assessing eligibility for services

  • Providing information about resources and supports in the community to children, youth and families

  • Completing the intake process with children, youth, and families

  • Triaging new intakes and referring clients to the appropriate service

  • Working as a team member to ensure that service delivery is responsive to the community and consistent with the Mission and Vision of the Organization

  • Liaising with community partner agencies where it is in the best interest of the client and necessary to understand the needs of the child to determine next steps for CMHS services

  • Maintaining confidentiality and privacy at all times

  • Following clinical best practices and quality standards, based on the organizational policies and procedures


Experience/Skills and other Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology

  • Consideration will be given to candidates with a Bachelor of Social Work with at least two years of work experience in a community-based children’s mental health facility and a commitment to complete a graduate clinical program

  • Registration in good standing with the OCSWSSW or CRPO

  • Previous experience working with children, youth, and parents or guardians

  • Single Session Therapy training and experience will be considered an asset

  • Immunization record against COVID-19 (minimum two doses)

  • Knowledge and expertise in the field of community-based mental health services

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to child & family services and children’s mental health services

  • Strong telephone counselling and public relations skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Ability to achieve service goals both independently and collaboratively

  • Must be available to work flexible hours when required to align with client needs
